Street People Interview

My experience finding people to interview on the street proved to be difficult. Most people did not want to have their response recorded or posted to the internet. Of the people that were willing to participate interview, I found that mentioning the Bronx elicited different responses from the respondents. The respondents from the Bronx had more to say and evoked passion in their answers. The woman from Manhattan did not have the same enthusiasm. Off camera, the woman from Manhattan mentioned that if the cause was more generic and did not involve the Bronx, she would have provided a more spirited answer. She also stated that because she is not from the Bronx or has any business there, she found it hard to get enthused about helping out a Bronx organization. Another finding was the importance of face to face interaction. The two Bronx respondents had mentioned the importance of having face to face events and involving local partnerships in order to get them energized. This would imply

BronxWorks’ uses it various platforms to help visualize the cause. A major theme is utilizing old power where BronxWorks will share information and tell stories instead of sharing power with its beneficiaries. Unless an organization is in the business of telling stories, like the New York Times, BronxWorks would be more effective in letting others tell their own story. This is primarily done through showing the effects of its accomplishments . Through its accomplishments, BronxWorks makes a case as a problem solver. Other times , the cause is shown by highlighting hardships as a call for support. A key takeaway is that the website does not highlight the cause as urgently as social media. One way to do this is to show what happens to people who have been placed in long term housing. For example, John Doe has been off the streets for X years and is not a success. Bronxworks ’ mission can be summarized as helping Bronxites improve their economic and social life. Due to the different services available, BronxWorks may have one or more roles depending on the beneficiary. In this clip , a BronxWorks program can be seen as a catalyst for changing how corner stores shift to selling more healthy options by employing student volunteers. Meanwhile, BronxWorks provide an array of services that can fall under any number roles, such as caregiver . Providing so many different services makes it appear that BronxWorks might be trying to overachieve. While accomplishments are important, BronxWorks have to also remember that social media can be used against their mission. It is important that social media is a 24/7 operation, just like the services they provide.
